Madekwe is the daughter of an ethnically diverse family in South London in England. She has a father who is Nigerian as well as Swiss, while the mother of her is English. She was born on the south London council estate, and when she was 14, attended The Brit School. She went to The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London where she gained an acting BA. She performed in various stages during her high time at school, including King Henry V and Wuthering Heights. Madekwe got her start in acting with a film titled Storm Damage. The actress has been a guest for Teachers Doctors Casualty Drop Dead Gorgeous. Madekwe made her debut motion picture in the 2007 Woody Allen film Cassandra's Dream, opposite Colin Farrell and Ewan McGregor. She then was the lead in Elisha, an episode of the BBC Three pilot drama, in West 10 LDN. In the same time, she starred as Ollie for six episodes in the series Trexx, Flipside, and Flipside.
